WorldStage Newsonline-- One of Nigerian great theater icons, Olanrewaju Hassan Adesina, also known as Iya Awero marked her 50 years on stage at a ceremony organized in her honor in Lagos at weekend.
A book on her life on stage “I will die in Acting”, was also launch at the event while some artists such as Alahji Adebayo Salami also known as Oga Bello, Olusanya Adejusonwo, Tajuden Adepetun among others were honored for their contributions to the industry.
Speaking at the event, the First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs. Abimbola Fashola congratulated Adesina for her outstanding contribution to theater art.
While lunching the book, she encouraged everyone to support the icon by buying the book, adding that people should work towards the growth of the industry.
First Lady of Ogun State, Mrs Olufunso Amosun described her as an icon in the industry that deserved to be celebrated.
In a tribute to the celebrant, Adebayo Salami, also known as Oga Bello described Awero as a very disincline and patience woman who had contributed in no measure to the development and promotion of the indigenous culture.
According to him, “she is a lover of the art and she is very discipline person. From the time of Ojo Ladipo, she has always been in charge of money.”
Adejumo Lewis, who was known for her performance in Village Headmaster, a TV series in NTA, said that Awero had proved the world wrong that women are weaker sex.
Performing at the event include great comedians such as Hafiz Oyetoro, a.k.a Saka while Wale Adenuga Production and other groups were also added glamour with their outstanding presentations.
Other personalities at the event include the formal Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Mrs. Adebisi Sarah Sosan, King of Juju music, Sunny Ade, King Said Oshupa, among others.
