Experts converge to discuss the future of retail banking in Africa

Efma, a leading non-profit retail banking association, is pleased to announce its first Pan-African Retail Banking Summit which will take place in Johannesburg from 11-12 February 2015. The Summit will provide a forum for leading bankers from across the world to network and discuss the biggest hot topics regarding retail financial services in the region.

"Africa is commonly regarded as one of the rising stars in the emerging markets - and it's easy to see why," explains Patrick Desmarès, Efma's CEO. "According to recent industry reports, the region offers a return on equity of 20-30% - roughly double that of banks in developed markets. It also houses the world's fastest growing internet population and is the world's second fastest-growing continent economically speaking. For banks in the region this is a very exciting time, and so we are delighted to be hosting a new Pan-African Summit."

The Pan-African Retail Banking Summit will see a wide range of industry experts take the floor to tackle a number of issues facing the industry today. These include: Peter Schlebusch, Standard Bank's Global CEO of Retail and Business, who will deliver one of the keynotes;  Kosta Peric from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, who will speak about financial inclusion; and Fabrice André from Orange who will look at issues beyond retail financial services.

The distinguished speakers will share their experiences with conference participants who will also be encouraged to share their own ideas and experience with the audience, both during the Q&A sessions after the presentations and during a number of roundtables.

There will also be a number of workshops, where participants will be able to learn from the best in the industry. These one-hour sessions will provide invaluable information as well as opportunities for more in-depth discussion and interaction.

Furthermore, a number of leading banks in the region will be sharing their own success stories. These include Nedbank, Heritage Bank, Mauritius Commercial Bank and Chase Bank Kenya.
