Leading operators in the agricultural sector in Nigeria have expressed their commitment to support Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited in its role as consultant and manager to the Federal Government on the National Egg Production (NEGPRO) scheme. The latest major agricultural industry operators to back the scheme include Livestock Feeds PLC and Turner Wright Limited.

In a message to the management of Tuns Farms Limited, Managing Director of Livestock Feeds PLC, Mrs. Modupe Asanmo, referred to NEGPRO as a “laudable programme which we believe will transform the poultry industry in Nigeria and will indeed enable the industry to fully achieve its potential as a major source of revenue and employment generation for the country”.

According to Mrs. Asanmo, Livestock Feeds Plc, a subsidiary of UAC Nigeria Plc and presently the only commercial feed milling company quoted on the Nigerian Stock Exchange, will support Tuns Farms Limited to ensure that the NEGPRO scheme succeeds in every part of the nation.

“Livestock Feeds Plc operates two owned plants which are strategically located in Ikeja and Aba with a joint production capacity of 23mt/hour, while a Toll milling arrangement with Grand Cereals Limited takes care of our operations in the North and Onitsha axis (Edo, Delta, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi), making us available and visible pan Nigeria,” she pointed out.

The Livestock Feeds boss expressed her company’s desire to fully participate in the NEGPRO scheme both as a supplier of finished feed and concentrate; also as a member of the Scheme Technical Committee (STC).

In a similar development, Turner Wright Limited, a leading producer of animal health and animal nutrition products in Nigeria has sent a solidarity message to Tuns Farms Limited following the company’s appointment by the Federal Government as a consultant and manager of the NEGPRO scheme.

Dr. Tunde Waheed Lawal, Managing Director of Turner Wright Limited, noted that his company is ready to put its wealth of experience in the animal health and nutrition subsector at the disposal of Tuns Farms to ensure the successful implementation of NEGPRO scheme. Tuner Wright Limited had, in 2006, established the first indigenous pharmaceutical manufacturing plant in Nigeria dedicated to veterinary pharmaceuticals.

It will be recalled that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited two weeks ago in Abuja signed a twenty five billion naira (N25bn) agreement on NEGPRO scheme to be financed by the Bank of Industry (BOI). The agreement was signed on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development by the Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Chief Audu Ogbeh and the Chairman of Tuns Farms Limited Asiwaju Olatunde Badmus.

As part of its role as manager of the scheme, Tuns farms Limited will recommend eligible entrepreneurs to access the N25 billion facility through the Bank of Industry (BOI). The company will also develop customized and standard feed concentrate for the scheme to ensure uniformity.

In addition, the company will recommend standard specification and costing for the scheme, monitor activities of entrepreneurs involved in the Scheme, support the Bank of Industry (BOI) through the National Technical Committee in the selection process of commercial banks to disburse and recoup the 25 billion Naira anchor borrower facility from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) as well as select entrepreneurs/stakeholders across the country for recommendation to the Technical Committee for final ratification and appointment to participate in the scheme.

Tuns Farms Nigeria Limited ranks among the top three producers of broiler meat in Nigeria, with over three decades of continuous development and improvement in all areas of integrated operations. The company is a leading producer of quality broiler meat and other chicken derivatives in Nigeria.
