WorldStage Newsonline-- Shooting Stars midfielder Awakan Afeez has injured his right ankle and will be out for two weeks, scans have confirmed.

It was learnt that the 18-year-old got injured in Minna when they met Niger Tornadoes in the Nigeria Premier League week 5 fixture on Saturday.

However, the new Shooting Stars player who made his debut on that day will not require surgery as earlier thought, with the news coming as a relief to coach Festus Allen.

Speaking after the game, the Club Doctor, Funmi Ogunjimi said: “It looks like a serious damage when it first happened. But it is not as bad as seen. The injury has been accessed and hopefully he will avoid operation and will be out for the next 12 days.”

Awakan joined Shooting Stars from FC Ebedei last month and made his first start for the Oluyole Warriors after been put on bench for last three matches played at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium. He was harshly brought down at the 43rd minutes of the game by Benedict Atule who earned a yellow card as a result of the tackle.
