A scientist, Mr David Ukazu, on Wednesday said the establishment of a Science Park was a panacea to the development of science and technology in the country.

Ukazu, the Chief Executive Officer, Zuson Technologies told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja that the establishment of the park or science corridor would go a long way to pushing the country’s quest for advancement in science and technology.

NAN reports that the science park or corridor is a project driven by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP) and is expected to bring Research and Development (R&D) into the country.

It is a place where all science and technology related organisations are situated for closer interactions and cross-fertilisation of ideas to promote development in the sector.

“This is 2018; Nigeria should move forward from talk to action.

“I feel the establishment of such a park is key to the development of science and technology in this country because all the relevant organisations that are involved in research and innovation will be together.

“It should not be business as usual, it should not be a glorified property development because there is the need for a fundamental transformation in the prevailing economic planning through R&D policies and urban development.

“It will help to create conducive R&D environment that will help the country to maintain competition in the light of increasing competition in the global economy,’’ he said.

Ukazu said that agencies such as the National Biotechnology Development Agency, National Building and Road Research Institute, Space Research and Development Agency would benefit from the arrangement when it was eventually established.

He therefore called on NOTAP not to relent on its to ensure that the park was successfully established.
