The Spouses of Ogun State Government Functionaries Association (SOSGFA) with wife of the state Governor, Mrs. Olufunso Amosun as the President is organising Essay writing competition on topic issues in Ramadan as well as quiz and Quranic recitation Competitions for school children across the 20 local government areas of the state.
In a statement by the Coordinator of the 2012 Ramadan Essay Writing/Quiz Competition, Dr. (Mrs.) Rashidat Salisu, the contest was aimed at providing opportunity for our school children to enhance their knowledge of Islam and bring home the virtues of the glorious month of Ramadan.
"The Essay Writing/Quiz Competition is specially designed to engender scholarship, and encourage reading and research among our school children and keep them occupied as most of them are currently enjoying their academic break. We hope to promote public awareness on educational sector and enable our students analyse issues from their own perspectives," she said.
Dr. Salisu, who is also the wife of the Deputy Chief of Staff to Ogun State governor, said the topics for the essay writing competition include "Junior Secondary Schools Category: The Social, Moral and Spiritual Benefits of Ramadan" and "Senior Secondary Schools Category: Maximising The Gains of Ramadan."
She said the first stage of the Essay Writing Competition with not more than 250 words, had been written within an hour at four centres on July, 25, while the Quiz & Qur'an Recitation Competition would take place on July 31 at selected schools in each of the 20 local government areas of the state.
The schools include Ode-Remo High School Ode-Remo; Sagamu High School, Sagamu; Ikenne Community High School, Ikenne; Ijebu-Ife Comprehensive High School, Ijebu-Ife; Molusi College, Ijebu-Igbo; Ogbogbo Baptist Grammar School, Ogbogbo; Muslim College, Ijebu-Ode; Odogbolu Grammar School, Odogbolu; Ahamadiyya Comprehensive High School, Ogun Waterside; and Ansar-ud-deen College, Ota.
Others are Muslim Grammar School, Imeko; Community High School, Ago Sasa; Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro; Yewa College, Ilaro; African Church Grammar School, Ita Iyalode; Nawair-ud-deen High School, Oke Ijeun; Methodist High School, Arigbajo; Adenrele High School, Ifo; Egba-Owode Grammar School, Obafemi/Owode; and Salawu Abiola Comprehensive High School, Osiele.
The coordinator added that the competition would be rounded up with a prize giving day for winners immediately after Ramadan.
