Airtel, Huawei, Microsoft launch Window smartphone in Lagos

WorldStage Newsonline-- Huawei Technology Limited in partnership with leading telecommunication operator, Airtel and Microsoft on Thursday in Lagos launched a mobile Huawei W1 window smartphone.

The phone was said to have “people’s hub. It is the most personal and social phone because it keeps you connected. The people’s hub connect all contacts across various social network integrated into the people’s application which helps not to miss an update; it also has the family room where friends can be invited for chats; it has the kid’s corner, virtual space for kids which can be customized without the kid’s being able to temper any other functions on the phone.”

Speaking at the launch in Airtel’s head-office, Yinusa Bello, Chief Sales Officer, Airtel Nigeria said, Huawei was quite elevating while Microsoft windows operating system was becoming a choice for smartphone users across the globe.

“By partnering with Huawei and Microsoft, we are able to develop quite a lot of innovative products and we will continue to do this in the industry and globally,” he said.

He thanked Huawei and Microsoft for the partnership on project, describing them as great organizations worldwide, saying with Airtel also a global organization, the partnership of the trio was to delight their customers.

He said Airtel had the largest 3.75g network in Nigeria, that covered up to 200 towns, with next competitor present in less than 100 locations. He said Artel was the first network to introduce a single card comprising voice and data.

Tony Liang Wei, Managing Director, Huawei Device, West Africa, said the software  for the product was specially suitable for African market.

Mark Ihimoyan, the Consumer Channel Group Director, Microsoft said, the W1 phone was pack with innovation with unique quality.

“It’s a smart phone invented around you because everyone is individual and it uniquely customize from the start page of the screen. It has sizeable tabs that are live not just a static array of dead icons on the screen, but applications that bring to your screen the information that matter to you, that is innovation,” he said.

“The phone is unique because it windows phone. It runs the windows system which gives opportunity of staying productive on any device at any location at any time. It has full Office application running on the phone with OneNote and SkyDrive. It has security backup and restore mechanism that can restore all contents back into a new phone.

“In terms of security, the window 8 platform phone features secure boot, that there is no applications that can be put up on the phone without having been trusted and verified by Microsoft. This makes the applications clean save and guarantee from Microsoft.”
