WorldStage Newsonline-- The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) are not backing down on their agitation to force the reversal of fuel subsidy removal by the government.
The labour groups on Wednesday said they had fixed January 9 for the commencement of a nationwide strike by workers.
There were pockets of protests against the weekend fuel subsidy removal yesterday in major cities across the country.
Secretary of the Joint Action Front, Comrade Abiodun Aremu told WorldStage Newsonline that the strike was scheduled for next week to enable people stock enough food at home as they would not know how long it will last and will not call it off until the policy is reversed.
The labour groups also said they would not negotiate with the Alfa Belgore led committee set up by the government.
President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan had on Monday set up a high-powered committee headed by a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Alfa Belgore to meet with organized labour and all other stakeholders with a view to resolving issues that may arise from the removal of the subsidy on petrol.
