Jonathan consoles Guinea-Bissua over death of president


Abuja (WorldStage Newsonline)-- President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria on Tuesday condoled with the people and government of Guinea Bissua over the death of their President, Malam Bacai Sanha, who died in Paris France.

According to a statement signed by his media aide, Dr. Reuben Abati, Jonathan received the news with sadness urging the people to ensure an orderly transition of power.

"As they mourn their countrys leader, President Jonathan urges the people of Guinea-Bissau to continue to safeguard the peace and stability of their country and its democratic institutions by ensuring an orderly transition of power that is in keeping with the countrys constitutional order and the rule of law," the statement said.

On behalf of the Government and people of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and member-states of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), President Jonathan extended sincere condolences to President Bacais family and the government and people of Guinea-Bissau, praying that God Almighty will grant late President Sanhas soul eternal rest.
