32,859 flood victims get farm inputs in Jigawa

The Jigawa Government has distributed farm inputs to 32,859 victims of recent flooding in the North-east zone of the state.

Alhaji Imamu Mohammed, Chairman, Farm Inputs Distribution Committee in the zone, disclosed this on Monday in an interview  in Hadejia.

According to Mohammed, the farm inputs included 16,432 bags of fertilizer, 9,100 bags of maize seeds and 5,735 bags of cowpea seeds.

He said other items distributed included to the victims, who were predominantly farmers, were 2,300 of watermelon and 900 tomato seeds.

The chairman said the inputs were distributed to the victims in Kafin-Hausa, Guri, Auyo, Hadejia, Kirikasamma, Kaugama and Mallam-Madori Local Government Councils.

Mohammed said only those affected by the disaster were targeted in the exercise, which began on Oct. 6.

“What we are doing is part of the fulfillment of the promise made by Gov. Mohammed Badaru, who is deeply touched by heavy losses recorded by the flood victims.

“When he visited the victims, he promised to provide farm inputs to them as part of measures put in place to cushion the effect of their losses.

“That is why only victims of the flooding are allowed to access these inputs,” he said.

Mohammed then commended the council’s authorities and the state agriculture extension workers for their support and cooperation throughout the exercise.
