80 states have now joined the Safe Schools Declaration

The Principality of Monaco has announced its endorsement of the Safe Schools Declaration, becoming the 80th country to commit to safeguarding education during armed conflict, said the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA) today. More than one third of all United Nations (UN) member states and the majority of the UN Security Council members have already taken this critical step towards ensuring education for all.

Safe Schools Declaration gets four new states endorsements

Djibouti, Macedonia, Peru, and San Marino have become the latest countries to endorse the Safe Schools Declaration, an international political commitment to protect education in war, said the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack (GCPEA). Seventy-nine countries have now joined the Declaration, including 21 African Union, 35 Council of Europe, and 14 Organization of American States members.

GAIN executive director awarded 2018 World Food Prize

The World Food Prize Foundation has awarded the 2018 World Food Prize to Lawrence Haddad, Executive Director of the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) and David Nabarro, former special adviser to the UN Secretary General.  Announcing the award Ambassador Quinn, World Food Prize President cited the recipients for their “extraordinary intellectual and policy leadership in bringing maternal and child nutrition to the forefront of the global food security agenda and thereby significantly reducing childhood stunting”
