WorldStage Newsonline— A non-governmental organisation also known as city cleaners and the environmental network has called on Ebonyi State government to get actively involved in environmental cleanliness and promotion of personal and public hygiene consciousness of the masses.
The organisation made the appeal in Abakaliki during the flagging off ceremony of the NGO with over twenty-six thousand (26000) volunteer members from the one Hundred and seventy-one (171) wards across the state.
According to the President and founder of the (NGO) Prince James U Ajah, the core values of the NGO is to promote sanitation and cleanliness of the state and equally to charge resident on the importance of environmental cleanliness through a department under the NGO known as environmental watch.
He called on Governor David Umahi’s government and the general public to start identifying with the NGO and equally respond to their calls to environmental sanitation and cleanliness.
Ajah maintained that the NGO had recorded huge success stories without funding from government or any donor agencies since its inception in 2016.
He urged the government to assist in tackling some of the challenges facing the organization, which according to him, included working tools, and vehicles for the evacuating of refuses that is unnecessarily dumped.
“We have our structure down to the ward level and in every local government we can boost of 2000 members in all the 13 LGA and we are still counting. We can boost fully said we have 26000 volunteers of this NGO.
Ajah stated: “We have a different department in the NGO like the environmental watch, fumigation department, waste management and recycling department, erosion and flood department, etc in other to encourage the government in power for job creation.
“All our activities are volunteering work. We have a cordial relationship with the ministry of the environment but we are hoping that the state government will integrate this NGO to the ministry of environment and this will create a job for the poor masses which will assist them to be more serious in the discharge of their duties as the environmental watch of this government.
” I believe that this government is doing well and I believe they are open to NGO so I believe that in the next four years, the NGO will be giving a widespread coverage by the present government,” he said
However, the President on behalf of his members commended the state government highly for the rapid development in maintaining the drainage system which they are also doing great to ensure that the drainages are kept clean.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mbam Augustine, the National coordinator programs, Mrs. Luisa Okafor, state women coordinator and other executive members have urged the volunteers to continue in their good work, maintaining that reaping time is fast approaching.
