Dr Chibube Afam, a Clinical Psychologist, has advocated for the inclusion of psychology sessions and courses in secondary schools in order to help youths overcome their future challenges.
Adam made the call while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, in Abuja.
He said it was necessary for the course to be introduced in secondary schools, adding that the effect will eventually rob off on the society, to which the students would return.
According to him, it is very difficult to understand the youth but one can shape how they will act and react to issues tomorrow.
“It is very good to have psychologists in our schools to help our society, when secondary school students are helped early in life by psychologists, the society will be the better for it.
“Psychology is the study of people’s behavior, performance and mental operations; It is also a knowledge, which can be used to understand events, treat mental health issues and improve education.
“Their presence in the school setting would help the society on the long run, if it is introduced early,” he said.
According to him, psychologists in schools will help the children manage small stress of their lives.
“Parents should be made to understand that this is the stage they need to correct many things that goes on in their children.
“They should be very watchful and watch out for things that could portend to become distressful tomorrow, and tackle them.
