WorldStage NewsOnline—- In a bid to ensure safety on Nigerian roads and save lives and property that are being lost regularly to auto crashes, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged the University of Ilorin to invest in research on road related challenges in the country.
Cdr. Jonathan Owoade, the Kwara Sector Commander of the FRSC, made the call in Ilorin, when he visited the Vice-Chancellor, University of Ilorin Prof. Sulyman Abdulkareem.
He said that the University could contribute immensely toward reducing road accidents in the country through safety-focused researches.
While commending the existing cordial relationship between the University and the FRSC, the Sector Commander particularly commended the Vice-Chancellor for his interest in road safety and for supporting safety training and seminars on the campus.
According to Owoade, the Corps is ready to train and update all the University’s drivers.
“We don’t know who can be involved in an accident but we must be well informed about road usage because human life is sacred.
“We have a role to play in the security architecture of the country. Even though we do not carry weapons, we have recovered several stolen vehicles,” he said.
He disclosed that the FRSC is organising seminars in various places in the state to sensitise road users not to claim their rights on the road at the expense of their lives.
The sector commander underscored the importance of safety on the roads, saying that life has no duplicate.
Owoade advised members of the public to verify the authenticity of their number plates and drivers license by sending “VERIFYPLATENO-PLATE NUMBER and VERIFYNDL-NUMBER to 33324 respectively”.
