WorldStage Newsonline– With Manchester City losing their away match at Chelsea 1-2 this evening, Liverpool have become the winners of the Premier League this season with 86 points and seven matches left to go.
This evening saw Chelsea going ahead twice, first with a solo effort by Christian Pulisic in the 36th minute and a penalty by Willian in the 78th minute after a goal mouth rush and foul which earned Fernandinho a red card.
In the build up before the match, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard had admitted some amusement at the thought of Liverpool fans cheering for the Blues against City – but also that he knew the title race had been over for some time.
“That is an unusual combination! I think Liverpool won the league months ago, but not taking anything away from them if they were to win it tonight,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“They have been outstanding. They should celebrate for their brilliant performances. That’s for them to celebrate whenever and we will just focus on our performance tonight.”
Liverpool next match will be against Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on July 2nd.
