Nigeria: Chess federation media officer resigns

The coopted Media Officer of Nigeria Chess Federation (NCF), Babatunde Ogunsiku has resigned his membership of the federation just as the Africa Individual Chess Championships began in Tunisia on Monday.

In his resignation letter, he said that he took the decision because his company, Africa Chess Media, was currently in disarray and he needed to rectify things.

“About over a year ago, I was coopted into the current board of the Nigerian Chess Federation because of my antecedence with chess promotion within the country and on the continent.

“I received a letter of same, and this was confirmed in my first meeting with the board members on Saturday, June 22, 2019.

“I would like to humbly resign from this membership, considering the fact that my company, Africa Chess Media, is currently in disarray and I need to find a way to rectify and amend these happenings and put the company back on track,’’ Ogunsiku said in the letter.

“I do honestly apologise for any inconvenience this news may cause and I sincerely appreciate the time we have had together, with hope that I have contributed a little to the growth of chess in Nigeria during my time on board.

“I trust I will be able to support in any other capacity in the near future.’’
